隶属于（中国远征军）第53军美国联络组总部的丹尼尔·迈克考中士（来自德克萨斯州）负责安排将美军人员提供的M-1型钢盔分发给向腾冲发起冲锋的中国士兵们。美军联络官兵们非常愿意先让出自己的装备帮助中国友军的冲锋部队，因为从附近军备仓库调取装备可能会延误战事。这些钢盔将优先分配给肩扛火焰喷射器、无后坐力平射炮以及其他攻击性火器的冲锋在前的中国士兵。

S/Sgt.Daniel W.McCall,Lufkin,Texas,of53rd Army's American liaison group headquarters,was in charge of G.I.s contribution of M-1steel helmets to Chinese units assaulting Tengchung's heavily fortified Jap positions.American liaison officers and enlisted men were glad to help out their Chinese Ally instead of delaying the offensive to wait for helmets ordered from near supply depots.These helmets were given Chinese troops carrying flame-throwers,bazookas,and other assault weapons.
