美军14航空队参谋长阿尔伯特·赫根博格（左）准将和副总指挥上校克拉伦斯·塔尔博特，分别进入了在昆明的圣特雷莎大教堂参加为纪念14航空队所举行的安魂弥撒。当军官们到达弥撒现场时，中美联合仪仗队举枪致敬。从1942年4月4日起，陈纳德将军的美国航天志愿队，或称“飞虎队”，成为中国空中特遣部队。这支部队陆续歼灭了2194架日军飞机和409艘轮船。在1943年3月10日，这支部队被改编为美国第十四航空队。
